Child Autism Strategy
Feb 2014 - Hampshire County Council Children’s Services is currently in the early stages of preparing the first draft of the ‘Child Autism Strategy’ with key stakeholders. HPCN is very pleased to be a part of this, with our Participation Coordinator and one of our parent reps being part of this group. The first draft is being written and will be shared with representatives on the workgroup shortly.
We feel it is very important that we gather as much feedback on this first draft as possible, allowing us to be as representative as possible. With this in mind, we are setting up a ‘Parent/Carer Advisory Panel’ for this workstream. The panel will be providing extremely valuable feedback during these early stages, ensuring that the views of Hampshire parents and carers are fed back to the strategy group. If you feel this is something you would like to be part of, please email our Participation Coordinator: email@example.com. Travel expenses will be paid for attendance at any panel meetings.
Hampshire Autism Partnership Board for Adults
In January 2010 the Hampshire Autism Partnership Board for Adults was established. An HPCN member joined the board in April 2010. During 2010 and 2011, the board organised countywide consultation events. The responses from these events and the “Have your say” questionnaires from parents, service users and professionals were used to form the Autism Strategy for Adults. The Strategy was launched on the 5th November 2011.
At the launch, feedback from attendees has been used to formulate a plan which is being designed to implement the recommendations. There are six workstreams including a 'Children’s Strategy' workstream. It is hoped that the expertise from the County Autism Group (CAG) a countywide advisory group will help establish the “Children’s Strategy” workstream.
One of the two HPCN committee members on the CAG has served as a parent representative since 2008 and is a Hampshire Autism Partnership Board member.
