 JOB DESCRIPTION -  HPCN REGIONAL REP 
 

Hampshire Parent Carer Network is a parent-led group, set up to ensure that the families and carers of children and young people with disabilities or additional needs can participate fully in the development of services within Hampshire. HPCN is based in Winchester and is looking to recruit a Regional Representative to support the development and running of the organisation in the Fareham and Gosport area. Responsible to: HPCN Management team. Line Manager will be HPCN Regional Coordinator.   Hours: Initially between 4 and 8 hours per month, which very occasionally might need to include some evening and weekend working (by prior agreement).  Term-time only.   
 
Payment is made to you upon production of a completed timesheet and invoice for your hours worked. 
 
Two hours a month will be spent running the regional coffee morning for local parents (called ‘Get Togethers’).  The remaining hours can be worked flexibly, however, there will be an expectation to attend the termly Regional Rep meeting in Winchester, any training events held in your area (called ‘Learn Togethers’) and our Annual General Meeting.   Job Description The Regional Rep is responsible for the planning and running of parent carer meetings in the rep’s region of Hampshire.  These meetings differ slightly in their purpose and can take place in schools involving school staff with targeted parents (Talk Together meetings), as well as an open-to-the-public coffee morning (Get Together meetings). This role includes managing a small budget for room hire and refreshments, as well as planning meeting content, and using our database system to record and evaluate outcomes.  
 
As an organisation, we hold regular regional Learn Together events (training for parent carers) which, as a Regional Rep, you would be asked to attend and help run. 
 
Confident use of emails, Word and Excel are essential. 
 
 
Duties and Responsibilities: 


General

Work closely with the Regional Coordinator for admin needs. • Ensure all communications are GDPR compliant. • Attend the AGM and regular Regional Rep meetings. • Undertake training as required for personal development and to benefit the organisation. Participation Training and Regional Rep Training should be attended before starting as an area representative.  • Check and use only the appropriate @hpcn emails regularly and respond to any calendar invitation and emails within 48 hours. 
 

 Get Togethers

 Be responsible for the development and running of a local Get Together meeting in your local area. • Book your Get Together meetings six months in advance and share with the Regional Coordinator (taking into consideration school holidays and INSET days). • Organise local providers and/ or training sessions in your Get Together group for parents to attract them to HPCN and to promote our participation role. • Complete a sign-in sheet for each Get/Talk Together group you run and add any new members to our Mail Chimp database.  You will be given training on how to do this. • Upload the feedback you have gathered onto our FAME database. • Manage a small budget for room hire, refreshments, local promotion. • Manage the local HPCN Facebook page, ensuring you are following HPCN social media policy.

Talk Together

• Actively encourage and promote our Talk Together initiative.  Increase the number of schools in your area to sign-up in. • Actively facilitate Talk Together meetings at schools, with ongoing support as appropriate. • Collate feedback and summaries from Get Togethers and Talk Togethers and share that information within GDPR regulations. Networking (where your monthly hours permit time to be spent up to 8 hours per month) • Represent and actively promote the Network in the local area. • Look for fundraising opportunities and grants to support your local area. • To make links with all mainstream and special schools in your local area, through both parents and staff. • Work with the Regional Coordinator to look for opportunities for guest speakers and identifying local parent carer training needs, whilst also attending and supporting HPCN events in your local area. • Attend local events to promote HPCN to parents and professionals in the local area. • Be involved with local participation opportunities and help identify local parents who can be involved with this work. • Build links with local related support groups.     

 

Pay:

£12 per hour Additional payments will be made if you are asked to attend meetings which are outside your normal four hours a month. Professional development training opportunities are available at no cost to yourself, however, travel expenses will be covered (as laid out in our Remuneration Policy).   

 

 Requirements

Essential Desirable/ Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:   

English GCSE /excellent written English / literacy - Essential     

Good standard of typing RSA II typing/word processing or equivalent  -Desirable 

Sound and demonstrable skills in Microsoft Office packages - Essential  

 Knowledge of Parent Participation and Parent forums  -      Desirable 

 Experience of, or knowledge of, what it is like to be a  Parent or Carer of a child with a condition or impairment  -Desirable 

 Experience of engaging with a variety of different agencies - Essential 

Understanding the needs of Disabled people and their families -Essential 

Experience of group work facilitation, training or chairing meetings - Essential 

Skills and abilities   

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to use own initiative and motivation to plan and organise work effectively - Essential 

Ability to communicate effectively in an approachable and professional manner -  Essential 

Ability to set up and maintain effective administration systems and to process information accurately - Essential 

Able to think creatively and to problem solve - Essential
