Overnight Short Breaks: Merrydale & Sunbeams

HPCN Position Statement

Hampshire Parent Carer Network take the position that Hampshire County Council respite centres Merrydale and Sunbeams should not be closed unless or until suitable alternative provision can be evidenced for existing and new families needing overnight breaks for their children and young people with complex disabilities.  Overnight respite offers families a vital break from caring, enabling them to focus on siblings and the everyday chores in a way other’s take for granted.  Respite also offers disabled young people the chance to get together, have fun, and progress their independence, just like their peers.

(HPCN's position reflects the collective views of its members.)
